Women Leading Through Change: Reflections from BPW Galway’s 40th Anniversary Luncheon

It was both an honor and a privilege to serve as keynote speaker at the Business and Professional Women (BPW) Galway 40th Anniversary Summer Luncheon, a remarkable celebration of four decades of leadership, collaboration, and impact.

The event brought together an inspiring group of women representing four continents, multiple generations of leadership, and a diverse range of professional experiences. While the milestone anniversary itself was worthy of celebration, what left the greatest impression on me was something even more powerful—the strength that emerges when women come together with a shared commitment to growth, innovation, and progress.

Too often, networking is viewed simply as an opportunity to make connections. What I witnessed in Galway was far more meaningful. The conversations throughout the day reflected the true value of professional communities: women exchanging ideas, challenging assumptions, supporting one another, and helping shape the future of business and society.

Leading in a Time of Transformation

We are living through one of the most disruptive periods in modern history.

Technology continues to transform how we work, communicate, and make decisions. Entire industries are evolving at unprecedented speed. Artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and changing workforce expectations are redefining traditional models of leadership and business success.

Periods of disruption create uncertainty, but they also create opportunity.

As leaders, we have a responsibility not only to adapt to change but to help guide it. For women in business, that responsibility is particularly important. The future will be shaped by the voices, perspectives, and decisions of those willing to engage in the conversations that matter most.

Women today have an opportunity—and an obligation—not simply to participate in the future, but to help define it.

The Power of Community

Organizations like BPW continue to play a vital role in advancing women professionally and personally. For forty years, BPW Galway has created a platform where women can connect, learn, mentor, and advocate for one another.

That legacy was evident throughout the luncheon.

The energy in the room reflected decades of leadership and service, while also highlighting the next generation of women stepping forward to make their mark. The exchange of ideas, experiences, and perspectives served as a powerful reminder that progress happens when individuals come together around a common purpose.

The event demonstrated that leadership is not simply about individual achievement—it is about creating opportunities for others, fostering meaningful dialogue, and building communities that inspire growth and innovation.

Gratitude and Recognition

I extend my sincere appreciation to BPW Ireland President Louise Creevy, BPW Galway President Aisling Kelly, Master of Ceremonies Joanne Murphy, BPW International President Diana Barragan Medina, Second Vice President of Membership Francesca Burack, Europe Regional Coordinator Anu Viks, and the many past presidents whose vision and dedication helped shape BPW Galway over the last four decades.

Most importantly, thank you to every woman who traveled to Galway and contributed to the conversations that made this gathering so meaningful.

The sense of shared purpose throughout the event was extraordinary, and I am deeply grateful to have been part of the celebration and proud to be a member of BPW Galway.

As we look toward the future, one thing remains clear: when women come together to share ideas, challenge perspectives, and support one another, they become a powerful force for innovation, leadership, and positive global impact.

The next chapter of business and leadership is being written today—and women will play a defining role in shaping what comes next.
